Caring for Your Artificial Grass Lawn

Yes, synthetic lawns are virtually maintenance-free but there are some regular steps you should take to keep your turf looking and performing its best.

  1. Rake, blow, sweep or vacuum regularly. Just as you wouldn’t let leaves, dirt, grass and pollen accumulate on your floors, sidewalks or decks, you should remove such organic materials from your turf grass before they start to decompose and create problems with bugs, weeds or odors. A regular, light grooming should keep things under control.
  2. Curb your pet. Yes, pets love synthetic grass! It’s perfectly safe for your animals to “potty” on your lawn. Simply remove any waste with a pooper-scooper or plastic-bag-covered hand. If needed, rinse the area with a garden hose to remove any residue. If certain spots become favorites for bathroom breaks, you might want to periodically sanitize the area with an enzyme treatment (available at Artificial Turf Express here), then rinse with plain water. Do NOT use bleach, power washers or other harsh methods on synthetic grass.
  3. Dress for success. Most artificial turfs use “topdressing” such as crumb rubber or sand to create a natural look and feel as well as to preserve the material. This infill material is usually added at installation but, depending on rain levels and weather conditions, may need to be replenished occasionally.

Your synthetic grass lawn is an investment that enhances the beauty and value of your home. With just a little TLC, it will give you a long life of outstanding performance.
